This whole series is excellent and the only problem I have with it is the wait between books! This is a wonderful book that has great depth to it. Charles has offered to change him into a werewolf, but Joseph is unwilling to go through it. But the police and FBI want in on the hunt as well, as a local girl was stolen and replaced with a changeling.Ĭharles also needs to face the fact that Joseph is dying-and Charles doesn’t want him to leave. So the werewolves are going on a hunt for this fae. But they arrive just as the fae have loosed a monster whose favorite prey is children-and he went after the grandchildren of the local Alpha. So Charles and Anna go to Scottsdale, Arizona to see some horses at the annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. The call gives Charles the idea to give Anna a horse. Charles is around 200 years old and doesn’t have too many friends this is one person he got close to, but Joseph has gotten old and is nearing the end of his life. And then he gets a call from an old friend, Joseph. He put a post-it note on his computer to remind him.

In Dead Heat Charles wants to give Anna a special gift for her birthday. But she wants to protect Charles too, even from part of herself. I like how Anna, even though she is younger, has been through tough times and values Charles.

I really like how Charles sees himself as an older wolf given this gift of Anna, an Omega wolf, which gives him peace.
